Due to the veterinarian shortage, we recently promoted Apollo the golden retriever from our clinic emotional support animal to Dogtor… but it's really not working out and we desperately need help.
Our low-cost clinic serves this area by performing over 3,000 vet exams and 7,000 spay/neuter surgeries a year for our low-income clients. Our medical team currently consists of 3 RVTs, 8 VAs, and Apollo, who periodically visits the clinic.

The Humane Society of San Bernardino Valley, a non-profit organization with a mission to help the animals in the community and to reduce pet overpopulation, is seeking a full time/part time Veterinarians. We are a private non-profit facility, not an animal shelter or animal control agency. We have been dedicated to reducing the pet overpopulation problem in the inland empire for over 50 years.
The Humane Society of San Bernardino Valley is a 17,000 sq. ft. Veterinary Clinic and Education Center, providing quality low cost spay/neuter services and minor surgical procedures to over 10,000 dogs and cats a year. The clinic consists of two double surgery suites and 5 exam rooms. Our Wellness clinic provides vaccinations, health check-ups, preventive care, minor illness treatment, as well as a strong focus on client education.

The applicant must have the following:
- Degree in Veterinary Medicine from an accredited veterinary college.
- Current and valid California state veterinary license
- Willingness to work in a fast paced environment that includes high-volume and pediatric spay/neuter surgeries, up to 35 daily.
- Ability to manage support staff and client flow for 5 exam rooms, seeing up to 25 vet exams daily
- A sincere respect for animals and an active concern for their well-being.
- Work with humane officers and oversee care of animals involved in our cruelty cases.
- Excellent communication, organization and technical skills

Summary:
This position assists the Executive Director and Fund Development Coordinator in performing and fulfilling a variety of technical, clerical, internal and external responsibilities as delegated. General duties to include; preparing written communications on behalf of the organization; answering phones, write articles for the Society’s newsletter, performs computer data entry; recruits and coordinates volunteers, coordinates special events; acknowledges donor and member contributions; and fulfills other duties as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Prepares written communications on behalf of the organization including: writing, drafting and editing articles for the society’s newsletter; writing press releases; and assists in the developing of other communications as directed.
· Answers telephones, assist clients by answering questions or concerns. Will be crossed trained to fill in for the Society’s Clinic Receptionist and Customer Service Representatives.
· Process and maintain all donor, member, and contributor files. Acknowledges donations by writing and drafting letters on behalf of the organization.
· Compose and type correspondence and provide clerical support to the Executive Director and Fund Development Coordinator.
· Create flyers, posters, charts, mailers and other promotional or seasonal materials for the Clinic and Society.
· Assist in recruiting, coordinating and training volunteers for Society programs.
· Coordinate Auditorium rental and requirements.
· With Fundraising Consultant, manage fund raising and special events.
· Assist other departments in cross training new employees.
· Perform other duties as required or delegated by Executive Director and Fund Development Coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School graduate or equivalent with secretarial skills and office experience. Ability to type 45 words per minute. Must be computer literate and have the ability to utilize software applications as provided by the Humane Society including the complete Microsoft Office Suite of products. Must posses good writing skills and be able to prepare corporate communications in a timely, accurate and efficient manner. Must be able to react calmly and quickly under pressure. Must demonstrate the ability to handle a variety of responsibilities with minimal supervision. Be well organized, work well with others and speak and write effectively. SUMMARY:
To provide medical care and assistance to animals at the clinic. This includes animals here for surgery, vaccinations, free examinations and euthanasia. Support the role as AHT to include being called upon to work in surgery/recovery areas and to perform miscellaneous duties in support of the receptionist.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Conducts physical examinations of pets under the supervision of the staff veterinarian.
2) Administers vaccines and medications.
3) Renders emergency treatment to all animals in need.
4) Performs a variety of diagnostic laboratory tests (i.e.: parvovirus, feline leukemia, fecal analysis, skin scrapings, etc.)
5) Checks in animals / conducts pre-operation examinations, including weigh-ins, tranquilizing, etc.
6) Performs euthanasia ensuring written euthanasia policies are adhered to while implementing euthanasia in a timely manner and to the highest procedural level.
7) Clean up surgery and examination rooms at the end of the day.
8) Performs all other duties and assignments as may be delegated by the supervisor.
9) Conducts new-pet exams; counsels on basis pet care; distributes pet care supplies and information.
10) Performs suture removals and nail trimmings
11) Provides grief counseling as needed.
12) Receives inventories and medical supplies under the direction of the Clinic Manager.
13) Tranquilizes patients prior to surgery.
14) Transports Patients from cage to prep and surgery tables and back to cage while adhering to procedural guidelines.
15) Assists recovery personnel as needed.
16) Cleans blades used in surgery daily.
17) Observes patients during recovery and assists with their release to owners, as needed.
18) Cleans and sanitizes clinic at the end of each day, preparing it for the next day.
19) Performs other tasks as assigned by the supervising Clinic Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of one year experience working with animals in a veterinary hospital. Knowledge of or ability to learn humane animal handling, restraint, and confinement procedures; familiarity of various animal breeds; familiarity of common animal diseases; safety precautions of working around animals. Ability to read, write, communicates and follows instructions.
